An island famed for its beautiful beaches and warm climate is set to become an even more popular holiday destination thanks to technology developed by Hawker Siddeley Switchgear.
Plans to increase the number of planes operating to and from Jersey Airport required the construction of a new air traffic control tower and HSS has played a vital role in ensuring a reliable power supply to the facility.
Working in partnership with Jersey Electricity, the company installed three of its acclaimed Eclipse AC switchgear panels.
Explained Steve Dymond, Sales and Marketing Director at HSS: “Jersey is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination and in recent years the airport has undergone a £12 million expansion and refurbishment programme.
“Key to this has been the construction of a new control tower which requires significantly more power to operate than the old facility. Obviously the tower is vital to aircraft safety and Eclipse provided the ideal switchgear solution thanks to its track record of providing excellent reliability and ease of maintenance across a broad range of demanding applications.”
A tight schedule meant that the installation was completed within just 12 weeks, ensuring that the there was no interruption in services.
Added Steve: “We are pleased to be associated with this project that will have such a positive economic impact on the island. The contract also illustrates the flexibility of our Eclipse products and their reliability in safety-critical situations,” he added.
