Electricity North West delivers more than 23 terawatt hours of electricity each year to their customers in the North West of England. That’s the equivalent of 2.7 million electric heaters being switched on for a whole year. They deliver this power through their network comprising:

Around 13,000 km of overhead lines
Over 44,000 km of underground cables
  Almost 86,000 items of switchgear
  More than 34,000 transformers

The Wilmslow substation switchboard was manufactured and installed in 1962 and contained a mixture of South Wales C4X and D8/12X1 oil-filled circuit breakers. The eleven-panel switchboard supplies over 6,000 customers living in the town of Wilmslow, situated in the North West of England. Hawker Siddeley Switchgear were tasked with replacing the oil-filled circuit breakers with a modern vacuum alternative to be manufactured and delivered within the requested timeframe and within the allocated budget.

As the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of South Wales Switchgear and Brush Switchgear products,  Hawker Siddeley Switchgear were able to supply SWR12 630A circuit breakers.A detailed inspection was made of the existing panels and position within the substation including current wiring configurations. Bespoke 630A and 800A high type breakers were then designed and manufactured according to the specifications derived from the survey.
