PROJECT AT A GLANCE
Electricity Northwest Ltd (ENWL) deliver more than 23 terawatt hours of electricity each year to their customers in the North West. That’s the equivalent of 2.7 million electric heaters being switched on for a whole year. They deliver this power through their network of:
Around 13,000 km of overhead lines
Over 44,000 km of underground cables
Almost 86,000 items of switchgear
More than 34,000 transformers
Within the Northwest area there are a number of sites which contain South Wales Switchgear and Brush Switchgear heritage equipment. In order to extend the life of their existing assets and due to the objectives outlined in the RIIO – ED1 regulatory proposal, where the DNO’s are awarded funding for improving the networks, ENWL have now commenced a roll out a retrofit programme continuing through to 2021.
As the OEM of South Wales Switchgear and Brush Switchgear products Hawker Siddeley Switchgear (HSS) have recently been awarded a framework agreement to supply ENWL with retrofit solutions for 2 years. Through this framework agreement HSS have secured the first order for 31 SWR12 630A circuit breakers.
The HSS retrofit range improves on the excellence of the South Wales Switchgear and Brush Switchgear heritage range.
